Dawn frost and the river’s tears

Jane Dougherty Writes

A melancholic bunch of magnet poems today. Perhaps inspired by meeting an old friend of Finbar’s yesterday who we hadn’t seen for three years, and finding him to be too old and fragile to run about any more.

and shadowy fastnesses

of lakes, black as diamonds.

Through stilly mists we go,

you and I,

dreams at our feet,

on our tongues.

You bleed away life’s joyScreen Shot 2017-08-05 at 11.04.20

in an ocean of salt tears,

dazzle with steely smiles

the girl I once was.

You make dark all that was magic,

but I remember the stars.

I wish I could hear,Screen Shot 2017-08-05 at 11.16.38

if only one time,

music in the night,

the stars‘ sweet song soar

and share the river’s tears.

following the sun,

moon cycle, river murmur,

till deep night falls

on this world,

and only frost blooms at dawn.
